This page explains how content at The Purrfect Name is researched, written, reviewed, and corrected. Our goal is simple: useful information you can trust, presented honestly about what we know and what we don’t.
Who writes our content
Articles on this site carry the byline Sierra Garcia — the name our writing team publishes under. We do not invent biographies, credentials, or reviewers who don’t exist. When a qualified expert reviews an article, that review is stated on the page; when no expert review has taken place, we make no such claim.
How cat names and meanings are verified
Accuracy about names is the foundation of this site, so we hold ourselves to these rules:
- Meanings and origins are published only where genuinely established. If a name has a documented linguistic origin or an established etymology (for example, a name with a clear Latin, Japanese, or Arabic root), we state it and describe what it means.
- Pop-culture references are labeled as references. If a name is popular because of a movie, book, or public figure, we say so — we don’t dress up a pop-culture association as a linguistic meaning.
- Inspiration is never presented as fact. Many names are simply appealing sounds, descriptive picks, or creative suggestions. In those cases we describe the vibe, the association, or the inspiration honestly, using words like “evokes,” “suggests,” or “a playful pick for…” rather than claiming a meaning that doesn’t exist.
- Popularity claims need a source. We publish rankings, trend data, or “most popular” lists only when we can point to a real dataset or reputable source, with the source and time period cited. Where no reliable data exists, we present picks as editor’s favorites instead.
How breed and care content is sourced
Breed profiles, care guides, and health-related articles draw on reputable sources: established veterinary institutions and publications, recognized breed registries such as the CFA and TICA, and published scientific research where available. Key factual claims in our articles are cited, and sources are listed at the bottom of each page.
We are careful with health topics. General care information on this site is educational — it is not veterinary advice. We avoid absolute statements about temperament or medical outcomes for any breed, because individual cats vary. Where a topic genuinely requires a veterinarian’s judgment, we say so and encourage readers to consult one.
On veterinary review: we claim veterinary review only where it has actually happened. As of today, our articles have not been reviewed by a veterinarian, and we do not represent otherwise. If and when credentialed review is added, it will be clearly identified on the relevant pages.
Product and insurance content
Product recommendations and insurance explainers are written to inform, not to sell. We describe review methodology on our review pages, and we disclose affiliate relationships wherever affiliate links appear (see our Affiliate Disclosure). We do not publish fake hands-on reviews, invent testing, or rewrite merchant descriptions as our own findings. Compensation from affiliate partners never determines whether a product or insurer is recommended, and we do not describe commission-influenced content as independent.
Images
Breed profiles and factual content use real photography or accurate illustrations. We never use AI-generated images as factual representations of breeds, and breed photos are real photographs of the breed in question.
Corrections
We take errors seriously. If a reader reports a mistake — or we find one ourselves — we verify the correction against a reliable source and update the article, keeping the published and updated dates visible. Significant corrections to factual claims may be noted within the article itself.

Advertising and editorial independence
Editorial content and advertising are kept separate. Affiliate partnerships and any display advertising do not influence our editorial conclusions, rankings, or recommendations, and affiliate links are clearly disclosed where they appear.
